History of Kingfisher The Great Indian OctoberFest

The concept of Kingfisher OctoberFest stemmed from a need to spread the Good Times to the teeming youth population living in the city of Bangalore. It was only after an extended period of planning that the first Kingfisher OctoberFest was held from 11th to 13th November, 2005, at the Palace Grounds, Bangalore.

Fashioned around the very premise of Woodstock ’69, with an aim to spread love, peace and music, this fest reflected another aspect. And that was, spread the good times among the numerous people who converged to the place from various parts of the country.

The magnanimity of the event was reflected through the illustrious list of bands and DJs who took center-stage over a period of three days. Starting from Moksha, Thermal and a Quarter and Parouisa who captivated the crowd with a wide list of originals and covers, to the Ministry of Blues, DJ Whosane and many others who added a spring to the feet of the gathered crowd.

Apart from this, a whole lot of associated events taking place all over the fest ground grabbed the attention of people attending the fest. Various beer games, a flea market, tattoo artists, face painters, doll dancers, stilt walkers etc., kept the high spirits lingering over the period of the three days, making this event a huge success.

The following year, the event, partnered by Kingfisher and backed by some of the biggest names in the field of music, news and entertainment, like VH1, Coke, Café Coffee Day, ITC etc. helped in creating a foothold not only in Bangalore but the entire country as the biggest musical event in the country.

Being held from the 26th to 28th of October 2006, at the Palace Grounds, the three day period saw many well known bands and musicians from across the country take the stage. Bands like Pentagram, Brahma, Them Clones mesmerized the gathered crowd with out-of-this-world guitar riffs and vocals. Having set the ball rolling, it was then the turn of the DJ’s like DJ Chico, DJ Ivan, DJ Rohit Barker to keep the good times going deep into the night with mixes that turned the whole fest ground into one massive dance floor.

In 2007, the event was held between the 5th and 7th of October at the Palace Grounds. The fest was kick started with the semi-finals and finals of Bangalore Rocks, followed by electrifying performances by many bands and DJs like Thermal and a Quarter, Mother Jane, DJ Rob, DJ Vas Flloyd and others from around the country.

After a break of a year the event returned with a bang in the year 2009. Held between the 23rd and 25th of October, at the Palace Grounds, the fest pulled in a crowd of over 50,000 people over a period of the three days.

Being bigger and better than ever before, the fest also showcased its largest line-up of bands and DJs as well. Among many others, bands like Avial, Inner Sanctum, Slain, Indian Ocean, Motherjane, Thermal and a Quarter fed the gathered crowd with tunes that got them headbanging and set the mosh pits going. After all the headbanging and body surfing was done with, it was the turn of DJs like DJ Chico, DJ Clitus etc., to raise the tempo. And that was exactly what they did, send the whole crowd into an ecstatic frenzy.

Other added features of this Kingfisher OctoberFest that furthered the good times and established the event as the biggest festival of music and fun were the Art Fest, Food Court, Kingfisher Ultra Lounge, Flea Market etc.

This year the fest plans to surpass its own standard and make it an event eagerly awaited till the next time.
